Trev Alberts, a former Nebraska All-America outside linebacker, is in his third season as an ESPN college football analyst. The 34-year-old Iowa native provides analysis on the Huskers before each week's game.

Alberts said he found it to be "absolutely incredible" that Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops had to take steps this week to educate his players on the meaning and history of the Nebraska-Oklahoma rivalry.

"If that doesn't show you how far it's fallen. And the other coach — Nebraska's Bill Callahan — also has to sort of educate himself about the rivalry. I guess I find that interesting.

"I'm absolutely dumbfounded that these teams no longer play every year. But hey, time moves on. I guess gas isn't a dollar anymore, either.

"I think the game still means a lot, at least I certainly hope it does. To me, as long as I live, I'll care about beating Oklahoma. As a player in the early 1990s, I didn't like those people. They were what stood between us and a national championship every year."

This season, Oklahoma remains in the national title picture while Nebraska has been long since eliminated. NU, in fact, enters as a four-touchdown underdog.

"Oklahoma's going to score, we know that — unless it implodes and turns the ball over. You just have to hope to make plays of your own and do some good things on special teams."
