Crowd Noise, 10/3
Here are what a few people had to say about Nebraska's 14-8 victory against Kansas on Saturday night as they exited Memorial Stadium:
Arlan Johnson, Lincoln: The defense saved the day again and I think we're trying to fit Joe Dailey into something he's not adapted for. The guy with the spleen (Jordan Adams) is who we need but what are you going to do? Thank God for the defense, though.
I sat through two years of Frank Solich and Jammal Lord and they were horrible. This season is better than that because I know in the end we're looking at a new and better situation.
I still believe in three years we'll be looking at a national championship I truly believe that. (Coach Bill) Callahan has it under control he just has the wrong personnel.
The defensive coordinator (Kevin Cosgrove), we ought to make him the president of the United States our defense took care of it. Our offense gives Kansas the ball on the 30-yard line and we only gave up eight points and no touchdowns.
(Fabian) Washington is a great player he's going to be in the pros, but my MVP tonight is the guy that punched the kid in Missouri last year (Kellen Huston). Every play he was in on he never made a mistake.
Don Watzel, Winner, S.D.: This was my first game ever at Memorial Stadium. I've been a Husker fan for a long time and I listen to them on the radio all the time and it was great to finally see them.
Kansas is a team on the rise, (Coach Mark) Mangino has them coming together.
We're still trying to work out the kinks in the West Coast offense, but if you give Coach Callahan time to get his players in here, they'll be great down the road.
There were a few times in the fourth quarter where I thought we might lose, when they (the Jayhawks) kept intercepting the ball. A win is a win, though, and if it's your team that gets the win it's all the better.
Luke Lacey, Lincoln: You have to give Kansas some credit. That KU running back (John Randle), he was awesome we called him Lawrence Phillips Jr.
I can't wait for that four-star athlete from Florida (Harrison Beck) to get here I think he's going to start next year because (Dailey) is throwing interceptions right and left.
I think if we had lost to Kansas it would have been like the Vancouver Canucks winning the Stanley Cup there would be a riot in Lincoln.
Lou Domenge, Omaha: I thought it was going to be a tight game tonight after watching Kansas play Texas Tech last week.
Kansas looked like world-beaters in the first half tonight and in the second half Kansas played Nebraska ball. They got conservative and didn't get the offense rolling and pretty much tried to not give it away and they did. This isn't the same ole' Kansas, though, and Nebraska is trying establish a new identity.
I think Nebraska can get it together and beat Texas Tech next week it'll be interesting to see who is favored. I'll be down there (Lubbock, Texas) for the game and I think they can get it done.
Alyssa Watson, Lincoln: It was an OK game. We should have beaten them a lot more than they did, though, and I thought we were going to lose at the end. It's KU and we've beaten them for 36 years and we only beat them by six points tonight that's pretty ridiculous.
We need to establish a ground game. We're not in the West Coast and that means we're not in the same department as the West Coast offense. We need to do something, because we don't have the playmakers to make this offense work.
