Football video coordinator leaves Huskers

Perhaps more than anything, Bryan Carpenter will miss talking to the players and coaches.
"That's the fun part," Carpenter said Tuesday. "You get to know so many people. You get to learn about the kids, and it's not always about football."
Carpenter last week resigned after working for 11 years in the Nebraska football video department. A 38-year-old native of Olathe, Kan., Carpenter was on the verge of his fourth season as the Huskers' video coordinator.
Nebraska players on Sunday report for preseason camp.
"I felt that if I left now, it wouldn't be a bad situation for the coaches," said Carpenter, a Nebraska starting fullback in 1988 and 1989. "If I took a hike during the middle of the season, that would've been hard on them. And shoot, I played here. I want to be able to stop up in the offices and say 'Hi' to those people and not feel there are hard feelings."
For the past decade, Carpenter worked closely with Brian Mohnsen, who during the offseason left Nebraska's video team to become defensive coordinator at Northwestern Oklahoma State. Mohnsen's replacement was hired a few weeks ago, Carpenter said.
Mohnsen and Carpenter filmed Husker practices and games and prepared the film for the coaches and players. The duo also prepared opponent game films for scouting purposes.
Carpenter leaves just as Nebraska prepares to add $750,000 in football video improvements. The improvements are expected to be approved Saturday by the NU Board of Regents.
Carpenter leaves with no animosity toward the new Husker coaching staff.
"I don't have a thing against those guys," he said. "Hell, they kept me around when they didn't have to."
A married father of two, Carpenter said he looks forward to spending more time with sons Branden, 7, and Corey, 3. Carpenter said he has no immediate employment plans.
