NU launches new Web site, CoachCallahan.com
Have questions about Nebraska football for Coach Bill Callahan? Want information on the Fantasy Football Camp?
Then you'll probably be interested in the new enhanced Web site launched Wednesday by Nebraska's athletic department.
It's www.CoachCallahan.com, a free, interactive Web site that allows users to get an in-depth look into Coach Callahan's program.
"I think it's a great avenue for the public and the fans and for football fans in general to dial into Nebraska football and get an idea of what's going on currently and really get an insight that's unique," Callahan said.
Features include a weekly column by Callahan during the season and period columns during the off-season. Even his wife, Valerie, will write columns.
Fans can also receive information on Big Red Football Camp, Nebraska Coaches Clinic, Fantasy Football Camp and Husker Football 101 for Women. Callahan will also answer some submitted questions on a weekly basis.
"It's just a good way to reach football fans in general," Callahan said, "and being in a state that has the most passionate fans in America, what better way is there to do that?"
- SPECIAL VISITOR: Green Bay Packers running back and former NU I-back Ahman Green briefly attended Wednesday's practice. He addressed the team before practice in what Tierre Green — Ahman's cousin — said was intended as a tool to fire up players. "He was telling us about the tradition of the program, and how guys were always talking about Nebraska … how back when they were playing, they just beat everybody," Tierre Green said. "We want to get back to that."
- QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Anybody see my ball land over here?" That from former Nebraska assistant coach Dan Young, who wandered into Memorial Stadium, dressed in a Husker Nation polo shirt and a red cap, to watch Wednesday's practice.
- FLUELLEN BACK: Callahan said wide receiver Isaiah Fluellen was back at practice Wednesday "on a very limited basis." Fluellen had missed time after suffering a hamstring injury last week.
- KICKERS REPORT: Callahan said there's been no decision made on a starting place-kicker. The battle is between sophomore David Dyches, who started last season, and senior Sandro DeAngelis. "Today, we put 'em under the gun, and we rushed the place kickers pretty good," Callahan said. "We've looked at that very closely, and we're getting more competitive in that drill. We're going to scrimmage it live on Friday."
- SCRIMMAGE TIME: Speaking of Friday, Callahan said the Huskers will have a major scrimmage that will involve four or five "move-the-ball" sequences, which would be more than the team showed Saturday in its situational scrimmage. The Huskers will still work on short-yardage situations on Friday but save the goal-line work until Monday.
